James Harvey

James Harvey B.Ost

James Harvey (originally from Woolpit) graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 2004.  During the course of his training, James undertook work in various specialist clinics including a sport injury clinic and an expectant mother’s and children’s clinic. After qualifying James moved to Yorkshire and built up three successful practices one in Scarborough, one in Sheffield and one in Selby. James and his wife have now decided to relocate back to East Anglia to be closer to family, friends (and the coast!). Along with running Woolpit Osteopaths, James also works part time at Stow Osteopaths in Stowmarket.

James has undertaken post graduate training in cranial osteopathy, sports injury massage and the Neil Asher technique for treating Frozen Shoulder. He is a keen sportsman enjoying sailing and kite surfing, this has led to a good understanding of sporting injuries. James also has a particular interest in treating patients who suffer from headaches and neck problems and enjoys the challenge of this complicated subject.

My Story

My first experience of Osteopathy was when i was about 6 months old. My parents were camping in France and I happened to be the really annoying baby that never slept and always cried! Luckily for the rest of the campsite there were two osteopaths on the next door pitch. They kindly introduced themselves and asked if they could be of assistance…all it took was a 10 minutes treatment and my sleeping improved. This experience opened my parents eyes to Osteopathy and since then our first port of call whenever we were ill or in pain would be a visit to the Osteopath.

With regular visits to the Osteopath (Stowmarket Osteopaths) and experiencing the results of Osteopathy myself I became interested in the profession from an early age. The practical aspect of the job and the ability to really help people who were in need lead me to apply to the British School of Osteopathy following my A-levels. It is one of those choices i have never looked back on and i cant think of a more suitable career choice for me.

Since qualifying i have owned 4 Osteopathic/Multidisciplinary practices seeing over 170 people per week through our doors. The first one was in Scarborough which I ran until I moved to Sheffield, one in Sheffield and one in Selby and now Woolpit. Owning and running the clinics has taught me many things and adds an enjoyable, yet sometimes stressful challenge to my day. Our move back to East Anglia highlighted my passion for my career as passing on the clinics to their new owners was a hard thing to do, both for personal reasons and due to the continued responsibility to my patients. It was important to me that they would be left in excellent hands and they continued to receive the highest standard of care and treatment.

Whilst growing up i enjoyed a lot of competitive sailing, competing in local, national and European racing events both inshore and off shore. Since moving back to East Anglia ill hopefully find a bit more time to fit in some yacht racing and a few more kitesurfing sessions along with catching up with old friends and family.
